Are Inktense pencils permanent?
Derwent Inktense pencils and blocks provide an easy and versatile way to add color to fabric. They come in a wide range of colors, are blendable, can be applied wet or dry, and are permanent once they have dried.
Are Inktense pencils good?
Derwent Inktense pencils are our best watercolour pencil ever! You can use them dry but mix them with water and WOW! the colour turns into vibrant ink. Once it’s dry, the colour is fixed and you can work over the top of it, and, because it is permanent it’s great for using on fabric such as silk and cotton!
Can you use Inktense blocks on canvas?
Derwent Inktense pencils work very well on 100% cotton fabrics, including cotton canvas. I would always recommend testing the media on whatever textile item you choose to use if it’s new to you. Also, be aware that the color of the fabric will influence the brightness of the Inktense colors.
How are Inktense pencils different?
Both pencils are highly blendable but the formulation of each pencil varies. The softer formulation of Watercolour makes for easy transfer to paper, whilst Inktense has a harder, waxier laydown. Inktense cores are also slightly thicker and feel chunkier to hold.
Are Derwent Inktense blocks lightfast?
Derwent uses the Blue Wool Scale (ISO 105) to evaluate lightfastness. 90% of colours within the Inktense Pencils and Inktense Blocks ranges are lightfast.

Though the colour range is otherwise identical across both products, one colour in the Inktense blocks – Turquoise – is not available in the Inktense pencils range, or at least it’s not in the 72 colour tin.
